Missing Wifi driver for Lenovo E431 – Debian

In the ISO installation of Debian the non free drivers for Wifi are generally not included .

1)Do a LSPCI and list out all the PCI devices

1

2)To find out the wireless driver do a grep

# lspci -nn | grep

2

3)Then as a root user edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file to insert a non-free component
3
And add the following lines

# Debian 8 "Jessie"
deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

4)Update the list of available packages and install the firmware-iwlwifi package:
  •  apt-get update && apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi

5) As the iwlwifi module is automatically loaded for supported devices, reinsert this module to access installed firmware:

  • modprobe -r iwlwifi ; modprobe iwlwifi
