Open Access

According to SPARC , Open Access is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment. Open Access ensures that anyone can access and use these results—to turn ideas into industries and breakthroughs into better lives. [1]

It deals with “… fundamental contradiction (Actual word used by SPARC is mismatch , while I prefer to use contradiction ) between what is possible with digital technology—an open system for communicating research results in which anyone, anywhere can contribute—and our outdated publishing system has led to the call for Open Access.”[1]

While in global North there has been a movement against the current publishing model of Elsevier , the open access movement in India has been if at all nacent stuck in the academic pockets of the country . Trying to understand the dynamics of the movement and how it can be applied to India .
