Flashing TP-LinkTL-WR740N with OpenWRT

  1. Find out your Tp-Link wireless router Model .2016-03-05-125318

2)Mine / FSFTN office’s is TL-WR740 Ver:4.28

3)Find out the appropriate OpenWRT version by referring to the wiki

Here in my case it Barrier Braker rc3

4)Obtain the required firmware from

https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/obtain.firmware

5)Just in case the the normal site is not available use the mirror

ftp://ftp.stw-bonn.de/pub/openwrt/barrier_breaker/14.07-rc3/ar71xx/generic/

6)Then go to 192.168.1.1 or http://tplinklogin.net

Mostly the default user name and password would be admin , admin

7)There in the Firmware upgrade , upload your

openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr740n-v4-squashfs-factory.bin file

8)Upon upgradation reboot your device

9)Bling there you are .

10)Now , just in case you had LuCI installed – this time around when you type 192.168.1.1 , you will be taken to the OpenWrt Configuration Interface . Now its all yours . Play around .

Note: there is no default password for the router . You can leave the field blank , get in and then change it .
